WBO’s former average junior weight champion Tim Tszyu needed a victory on April 6 against Joey Spencer in a fight on Kayo Sports in Australia and Amazon in the United States in the Newcastle Entertainment Center.
If he has something, Spencer (19-1, 11 KB) is a winning fight for Tszyu. A loss for this guy is roughly the end of Tim as a major actor. He can always drag, of course, but it wouldn’t be like before.
Tszyu (24-2, 17 ko) has lost its last two fights and has been without victory since 2023. IBF’s average junior weight champion, Bakhram Murtazaliev, destroyed it in three laps on October 19. Before that, Tim lost his WBO title of 154 LB against Sebastian Fundora by a decision shared in 12 rounds last year on March 30. This defeat may have withdrawn more tszyu than anyone who did not realize because he looked like a shell of him in his fight against Bakhram.
Tszyu must adapt if things go wrong against Spencer because he failed to do it against Murtazaliev. There was no adjustment by Tim after being abandoned three times in the second round. He just continued to move forward, to throw power and to be overturned.
“This is my takeover tour. I come back stronger, more swallowed and ready to prove a point. There is no relaxation – no development fights – just directly in the fire with a very, very good fighter at Joey Spencer, “said Tszyu. “He’s a real fighter, a dangerous opponent, and exactly the kind of challenge I want.”
Tim is a bit dishonest here because Spencer is a point of high level. He is a marginal competitor who intervened in class once in his career and was destroyed in seven rounds by Jesus Ramos on March 25, 2023.
“We have chosen deep depth. No safety nets, no warm -up. Pour or swim – I’m here to make a statement. If I have to cross the fire to come back to the top, too bad. That’s why I live, ”said Tszyu.
