Absent pot of St Peter’s Square for the third week in execution

For the third consecutive week, Pope Francis has not been able to deliver his traditional prayer of Angelus in person, with the Vatican publishing his written comments.

The Vatican said that the text, sent from his hospital room in Rome, had been written “in recent days.” In him, the Pope thanked people for his prayers and thanked his medical team for his attention.

“I feel in my heart the ‘blessing’ that is hidden within fragility, because it is precisely in these moments that we learn even more to trust the Lord,” he wrote.

“At the same time, I thank God for giving me the opportunity to share in the body and spirit the status of so many sick and suffering people.”

The Pope told Catholics around the world that he felt his “affection and closeness.”

“I feel that I am ‘carried’ and supported by all the people of God. Thank you all!” The text says.

In the last update of the Vatican, it was said that Pope Francis rested after a “peaceful” night.

On Sunday morning, according to the Vatican, “the Pope woke up, had breakfast with coffee, continued his therapy and read newspapers as he usually does.”

The Pope received two visitors at the Gemelli Hospital on Sunday, the first external visitors that the Vatican has mentioned since last Monday.

Once again, he was the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Parolin and his deputy, Monsignor Pena Parra, who saw Pope Francis in his room from the 10th floor. There are no details about the time they spent with him or what was discussed.

On Friday, the Pope suffered a second “crisis” of breathing, after which he was receiving additional oxygen support, but was not intubated.

For Saturday night, the Vatican described his condition as stable, without fever and without more “crisis” with his breathing. It was said that he was “alert” and eating normally.

In his Sunday Angelus, the Pope also prayed for peace, even in “tormented Ukraine, Palestine, Israel,” and added: “From here, the war seems even more absurd.”

On Sundays, Vatican visitors generally gather in the Plaza de San Pedro to see the Pope appear in a window at the top of the Apostolic Palace in the official papal apartment.

However, Francis does not live there, opting for the simplest scenario of the guest house in Santa Marta del Vaticano.
