Boxing results: Keith Thurman stops Jarvis, showing power and decline in Sydney

Keith Thurman (31-1, 23 KB) made his successful return to the ring with a technical shot of the third round of Brock Jarvis (22-2, 20 KB) Wednesday evening at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney.

WHO

Former Welters WBC and WBO weight champion, 36, dropped Jarvis twice in the third round with big fire. Referee Will Soulos interrupted the fight after the second Knockdown. The official time of the judgment was 2:19 a.m. from the Round.

During the first Knockdown, “once”, Thurman landed his right hand at the head of Jarvis who returned it hard. He beat the count when he got up, but looked in poor condition when the action restarted.

Keith then went to kill himself, unloading Jarvis and hit him flat with a left hook to the head. The Soulos referee immediately stopped the fight because Brock was not going to get up from this Knockdown.

In the first round, Thurman threw almost nothing, moving around the ring, trying to stay out of the reach of the younger and more powerful jarvis of 27 years. In the middle of the round, Jarvis precipitated Thurman, nailing him with powerful bodies on several occasions which have clearly disturbed the former aging Welters weight champion.

Jarvis loaded a left hook which barely missed Thurman’s head in the last seconds of the Tour. It was a blow that would have done damage if he had connected.

Thurman won two hard bodies in the second round that caught Jarvis’ attention, seeming to hurt him a little. The ausia looked temporary after being struck with these punches, and was not as aggressive as it was in the previous turn.

However, Keith did not do much to separate from the hardest blows with which Brock struck him. You could see the big difference between the young people between the two in this tower. Thurman looked like a much older person.

In the third round, Thurman hunted Jarvis around the ring, throwing powerful but very slow straight hands and left hooks. “Once” then trapped Jarvis against the strings and landed a right hand perfectly placed to put it hard on the canvas. Surprisingly, Brock went back from the Knockdown, but he did not seem in any case to fight. Thurman continued it and finished the work with a left hook that placed it on the web.

Lost speed

The fight was the first of Thurman in more than three years since February 5, 2022, and he looked considerably slower than during his last competition against Mario Barrios that year. Thurman has a lot of his game in terms of speed and mobility of the hand, which will not come back.

With this victory over Jarvis, Thurman is expected to face the former middle weight champion Juniors WBO Tim Tszyu in summer in Australia. Tszyu has lost its last two fights and comes out of a vicious defeat of the third round against the IBF champion, Bakhram Murtazaliev.

Tszyu should be promoted on Thurman in this fight because of the slowness and the old Keith this evening. The lack of speed and work rate would put Thurman at the mercy of almost every 15 best junior weights. He lost his game too much to beat the 154 high -level pounds. Based on his performance tonight, I cannot think of any notable competitor that Thurman could overcome.
