Jack Catterall and Harlem Eubank finally locked his eyes and the mouths on the last episode of the “tables on the table” of the match the result? A calm, clumsy and slightly spicy exchange that sets the tone for the entirely British Welter combat on Saturday LIVE ON DAZN From AO arena to Manchester.
Catterall comes out of a razor loss against Arnold Barboza Jr., while Eubank remains undefeated and full of self -confidence, having stopped Tyron McKenna to take the IBF intercontinental trinket. Now, they are both 31, both of the titles of the speaking world, and both try to convince everyone that the other guy is “good” but not quite “world class”. Welcome to the favorite prefabricated tradition of British Boxing: the failures of the ego.
Catterall admitted it “means everything” after making a close decision in February. He went to 147 with more questions than answers, but insists that he culminates at the right time. “I live clean, I take care of myself,” he said, saying essentially to Eubank that he is not there for a day of pay, he is there for a last race in a world title. He called Eubank “above the average,” praised his victories, then discreet claimed his credit for his plan. Subtle.
When asked who had more ego, Jack said it was just “working, working, working” for him – he doesn’t need to shout on this online. What seems humble … if you ignore the fact that he mentioned how much he lives. However, he is not mistaken on the issues. A Saturday’s victory puts him back into the conversation, a defeat probably buried the status of domestic guard.
Harlem Eubank does not pretend he was there and did it. He just thinks he’s ready now. “You are at your peak,” he told Jack, “we think we get the best version.” And that’s exactly why he wants the fight now – he wants to beat the best Catterall before someone else does it. Trust? Through the roof. Illusion? You decide.
He also ranked Jack as “should have been undisputed” and said he had chosen it because “you are the best”. Respectful, but you could see the glow in his eyes – it was not praise, he plotted. Harlem thinks that his shot to the honors of the world begins with this victory. “I plan to take it with both hands,” he said, referring to the frustration of years to be outside looking.
Oh, and the question of the ego? Eubank did not dodge it. “You need an ego to be in this sport,” he said. “You can’t be in boxing without it.” Just point. No one becomes a world champion by whispering self -doubt.
