The old school camera styling extends to some plastic that is beaten on the body and around the lens. Perhaps the plastic comes out here the most. As soon as you touch it, it doesn’t feel like a real gimmick, but after the imitation of plastic. If that makes sense. Baudrillard would love it. I found it functional enough to keep it very pleasant.
A major improvement compared to the previous model is the new lens design that corresponds to the one that we saw in almost all instax published last year. The Mini 41 is indeed mini and measures 4.8 x 4 inches and only 2.4 inches deep. It weighs just below a pound (15.1 ounces) with batteries and film. It will probably not fit into the pocket of her pants, but it was small enough that I carried it around in a jacket pocket. The batteries are AA, which is beautiful. Grab one Vierpack rechargeable AAS And you never have to worry about replacing the batteries.
Pictures throw out of the camera and take about a minute and half to develop. I found that the automatic focus worked well, and the adjustment between normal area and tight focus offers you a little additional control. (Be careful, however. The pictures in which I missed the focus were all the pictures in which I forgot that I had it in tight focus mode.)
