Israeli police say that one dead in the knife attack on the train station

An older man has been killed and four other people have been injured in what the police say it was a terrorist attack in the city of Haifa in northern Israel.

It happened at the bus station and central train in Hamifratz, and the attacker was shot dead in the scene by the security guards, police said.

The victim who died was around 70, said the Magen David Adom ambulance service. A 15 -year -old boy and a man and a woman in about 30 were in a serious condition, while a 70 -year -old woman was moderate, added.

Police said the attacker was a man of Israeli Druss of the city of Shfaram who had recently returned from abroad. Such attack by a member of the Duse of Israel community is weird.

Druss are an ethnic and religious group whose faith is a branch of Shiite Islam. Around 150,000 live in Israel and the occupied golan heights, which include around 1.5% of the population.

A witness told the Walla de Israel news website that the attacker traveled to Haifa on a bus from Sharam, which is about 10 km (6 miles) east of Haifa.

He began to stab the passengers when the bus arrived at the station, then got off and attacked others in the lobby, said the witness.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “My wife Sara and I sent our deepest condolences to the family of the man who was killed in the shocking terrorist attack in Haifa.

“We will continue to fight everywhere against those who seek to kill us and defeat them.”

There was no immediate claim of any armed group, but Hamas described the attack as “heroic” and a “natural response” to what he called Israeli crimes against the Palestinians.

It occurs in the middle of a dead point between Hamas and Israel on advancing with the Six -week Ceasefire Gaza Agreement.

Israel prevented the help from entering Gaza after Hamas rejected what Netanyahu’s office said it was an US proposal for an extension of the first phase, which ended on Saturday night.

Hamas accused Israel of giving up the agreement and said that the second phase should continue as agreed.
