Lamont Roach said on social networks that after defeating Gervonta Davis in their revenge, he was going to go up two divisions to face the winner of the November fight between Welter Welter WBO Brian Norman Jr. and Devin Haney.
Roach’s comment was encountered with laughter and confusion by Haney (32-0, 15 KB). It is not a fight on which he would concentrate if he is victorious against Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 kB). He would probably focus on the biggest available money fight, which would be a revenge match with Ryan Garcia or a confrontation against Teofimo Lopez.
“After defeating tank, I fight the winner of Devin Haney and Brian Norman. Here. I’m not going to repeat it,” said Lamont Roach on social networks. “You can all cut it, you can all do anything. This is what I do. You heard it here first.”
The roach lacks power, the attraction of fans
Turki Alashikh did not mention who he wanted the winner of the combat Haney-Norman Jr. to then face, but it is unlikely to focus on the use of Roach as an opponent. He is not known enough for relaxed boxing fans, and his defensive combat style would make things boring to look at. He has no power at 135, and he would be fully surpassed against a big puncher like Norman Jr. at 147.
It would not be sporty by watching Roach being beaten by Norman Jr., because he could not absorb the punishment that his last opponent, Jin Sasaki, did before stopping. Roach would be almost immediately, and the fans would feel torn if the event was sold on PPV.
Roach (25-1-2, 10 kos) and WBA champion Lightweight Gervonta Davis will fight in August for revenge. During their fight previous on March 1, they fought for a match at 12 laps. Many fans estimated that Roach had been deprived of a victory. There was the knee incident in the ninth round in which Tank took one knee after being struck with a stroke of Roach.
Davis then headed for his corner without asking for a time dead from the referee so that the fat was removed from his eyes. This should have caused a punctual deduction due to taking Davis. The referee lost control of the situation. The scores were 114-114, 115-113 for the tank and 114-113.
