Mark Carney to be a jury as a new Canadian prime minister

Mark Carney, an economist and newcomer political arrival, will swear as the new Prime Minister of Canada on Friday, a few days after being elected leader of the Liberal Government.

In its previous roles as governor of the Bank of Canada, the Central Bank of the country and the Bank of England, Carney previously helped both countries to climate the great financial interruptions.

This experience is expected to be useful since Carney negotiates a current commercial war with the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

It will replace the outgoing prime minister, Justin Trudeau, after an overwhelming victory in the liberal leadership career last week.

Governor General Mary Simon will preside over the Juramentation of Carney, the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, and her cabinet ministers. The moment will formally mark the end of nine years of political power for Trudeau.

But the celebration surrounding the inauguration of its successor can be of short duration, if Carney chooses to present the next federal elections of Canada, currently scheduled for October.

When the elections occur, Carney is expected to be presented as the best equipped candidate to face Trump in the commercial war that he has launched since he returned to the White House.

Carney has promised to maintain Canada’s reciprocal tariffs on specific US goods during the time Trump maintains universal tariffs of 25% on Canadian goods not covered by the commercial agreement of the-Mexico states (Cusma) of Canada-Canada (Cusma).

“We can’t let it succeed,” Carney said in his victory speech on Sunday.

Until the Americans “show us respect,” Carney said that their government would maintain tariffs on US imports.

“I know these are dark days,” said Carney. “Dark days brought by a country in which we can no longer trust.

“We are overcoming the shock, but never forget the lessons: we have to take care of ourselves and we have to take care of each other. We need to unite in the hard days that are coming.”

Canada depends on trade with the US.

When the federal elections arrive, the main rival of Carney will be the conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, who has been compared in his style with Trump, which is now seen by some experts as an electoral liability instead of an asset.

Before the threat of tariffs, conservatives enjoyed a 20 -point advantage in some electoral surveys. Now, some surveys are indicating a much closer race.

When the Canadians are below the polls, the liberals will face not only the conservatives, who are the official opposition with 120 seats in the House of Commons, but also the Quebecois block, which have 33 seats and the new Democrats, who have 24.
