Ross Matthews and a husband Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews I never thought they would write a book together – but how quickly the night changes.
“We come from two very different worlds. I am in fun for almost 24 years, and Wellington is actually smart,” Ross, Drew Barimore’s show Cohost, told US Weekly exclusively as they promote their children’s book, Thio and Thio: Rings Carriers (Out now). “He is an expert in his field of education, so we are in the full opposite ends of the spectrum as to the career. But we saw something at our wedding.”
Wellinthon, a curriculum developer and educational school leader, recalled that they watched their nephews Evan and Andy – from whom the book was inspired – to accept their roles as rings carriers so seriously. (Ross and Welint Tied the knot in May 2022. in Mexico with Drew Barimore like their colorful girl.)
“I noticed how the kids want to be perfect. They want to show up, they want to mean something,” he continued. “I remember telling [Ross] That’s why and just the process of how they really wanted to be with us. “
Evan and Andy’s participation in the life of Ross and Welinton did not stop at their wedding. The boys had so much contribution when it was about bringing tío and tío: the carriers of rings to the life of the page.

US Weekly: What was it like to go from couple to associates?
Ross Matthews: We are good. Listen, we just finished repairing the house. If we can do this, we can write a children’s series. The biggest part of the joint work was how good my husband was in what he did. I send it to work every day. I make him coffee and a little ziploc at breakfast and say, “Have a nice day.” But to see it closely, use your skills – a doctorate and your 20 years in the classroom as a leader in the administration – it was just so impressive. And, frankly, a type of turn.
Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews: Many people ask if Ross is exactly the same at home, [compared to] How to encounter television and 100 percent yes. As for being a storyteller, he is the Kamama King. It was the creation. When we talked about rings carriers, there is a little joke for children who think it is a bear instead of carriers. This a little native, just gave me an idea of his brain and how magical it is.
US Weekly: What was Drew Barimore’s reaction when you asked her to write the preface to the book?
Ross Matthews: I remember the moment I sent her a message. I am like: “Here is the deal, we have this idea for the book and we write it. You will become a little girl. I went to all this long text and she wrote:” I stopped reading after the first sentence. I love it. Yes, I am in everything you need. How amazing. It is amazing. “
Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews: I tell him constantly and tell her that [Drew’s] Family. She is my Herman. She’s my sister.
US Weekly: What was the reaction of your nephews to see the illustrated versions of yourself?
Ross Matthews: We want to shout Tommy DoyleOur illustrator. The book is based on real life, so there is a lot of pressure there because you do not just extract people out of pure imagination. You have to make them whimsical and expressive, but they should be based on people. There is a real challenge there. These are people we are very interested in, so I took care very little about how I look, and I was really in the boys and mom and my dad – making sure they reflect real life. We conveyed the rough draft of the nephews and said, “Do you have notes?” I thought this would be a sweet moment for “We’re good. Isn’t it cool? They came back and wrote on every page, notes. We thought:” We can’t write a book about mastering children and not to get their notes. ” So, we turned to everyone. The boys were right.
Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews: Their prints are everywhere. I call them my free trainees.
US Weekly: Does this book write up to your expectations?
Ross Matthews: We really did this as a representation of our family. So, whether someone bought a copy or not, we would have been grateful that we had this on our shelf forever. The fact that people are paying attention and buying it has just announced that we are receiving the number two book in the series of that. This is so frost. We are just overcome with gratitude.
Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews: There were just tsunami of love from my colleagues, from friends, from neighbors, how proud they are, that it actually exists and that it is out in the universe. It really warms my heart and I am so ecstatic that it is there and people can buy it and read it. This is more than what I expected.
US Weekly: This book is related to weddings. What can you annoy about your upcoming third wedding anniversary?
Ross Matthews: We are coming back. He has even years, I do strange years in terms of planning. This year I and I took you.
Dr. Wellinthon García-Mathews: I looked up, we have to give ourselves skin.
Ross Matthews: I thought more like a skin journal, but it could be harness. You never know. … We are a happier hour, less falling apart.
US Weekly: Now that you are part of the club, what are your thoughts about celebrities who write children’s books?
Ross Matthews: I think it’s fun. Creative people should not be placed in any box. If the next day you want to create TV one day and a world in literature, you must be able to. … If you have something to share with the world, I think you should share it.
