Six months ago, Berlanga was the headliner in a unified super-world title fight that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately for Berlanga, he lost his spotless record. Now he is ready to bounce back by presenting his talent on Saturday evening.

Edgar Berlanga, from Brooklyn, 27, from New York, began his career impressively when he posted 16 consecutive victories for direct elimination of the first round. During his next five fights, Berlanga seemed average when he won five victories by decision.

Berlanga was going to make a drastic career movement when he signed a multi-combat agreement with Eddie Hearn and Boxing Matchroom. A year later, on the night of February 24, 2024, in his second fight with Match, Berlanga put an end to his four -year drought when he faced the Irish boxer unbeaten Padraig McCRORY.

With 25 seconds to do on the sixth round, Berlanga won a loop on the right which sent McCrory on the canvas. McCrory was trying to get up, but before he could fight, his Cornerman decided to throw in the towel.

After his arrest victory, Berlanga won his dream fight, when he had to face the world champion Unified WBO, WBA, WBC Super-Middlewight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Canelo dropped Berlanga into the 3rd, but Berlanga was able to recover and survive the rest of the round.

Berlanga maintained the competitive fight, but at the end of the 12 -round competition, the defending champion Canelo Alvarez won a unanimous decision. Now, Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 Kos) is ready to resume his way in a compulsory statement of the challenger, when he should face an undefeated adversary.

Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz is a pressure style fighter who has a good placement of punch and he is used to crushing his opponents with his work rate. Gonzalez -rtiz, 35, had two fights in 2024, but before that, the last time he contributed inside the ring was in 2014.

The launch of ten years of Gonzalez-Ortiz and the low level of competition which has been confronted, these are the two main reasons why some are skeptical about this competitive fight. However, Edgar Berlanga does not underestimate his opponent because he thinks that on Saturday evening, he will be involved in an exchange of fire.

“I do not neglect this man, he comes to win,” said Berlanga. “He is Puerto Rican, and he has this Puerto Rican blood in him. So I know he comes to fight. I know he’s not going to run around the ring trying to survive. He’s going to go there and try to prove a point.

Austin “Ammo” Williams against Patrice Volny is the headliner, but the co-principal is a very intriguing match. After Big Money’s fight with Canelo, Berlanga weighed for his next fight at 1.6 lb on the mid-house weight of 168.

That being said, will a lack of concentration and discipline of Berlanga open the doors of the opportunity for an upheaval of Gonzalez-Ortiz, or will Berlanga show that it is at a different level and will perceive a routine victory?
