What’s different this time? | Nerd Fitness

Today is the greatest hope and optimism full of day of the year.

This is great!

Any goals or resolutions you have set for yourself, I am excited about you!

We are all trying to improve ourselves, and even though things have not evolved in the way we wanted in the past, we hope this time will be different.

Musician Nick Cave describes hope as “optimism with a broken heart”, and I think it is beautifully accurate. We all try to be different when the change is so tough.

If you are trying to create a new training habit or change the number on the scale this year, I greet you. Defining a target for change is very commendable.

But in order to give ourselves the best chances of achieving our goal, we need to combine the goal with some self-restraint and self-knowledge.

Here are two questions to ask ourselves as we start in 2025…

Question 1: What is different this time?

I am proud of you who started again.

But what’s different about this effort?

If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you always have.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

If you choose the same goal or strategy you have tried (unsuccessfully) in the past, the end result will be the same: another lost year “Why can’t I take my act together?”

So be deliberate about what’s different this time!

Don’t “go to the XYZ diet” or “give up all the sugar forever” or “Marathon train” again, especially if you’ve tried these things before and you couldn’t get stuck with them.

Something must be different this time:

  • Make fewer changes.
  • Choose a goal and focus on it.
  • Choose a different training routine.
  • Choose a different diet or diet change.
  • Choose a different time of the day to edit it.
  • Hires a friend to come with you so you don’t do it yourself.
  • Make your new desired behavior beneficial or necessary.

Prove yourself that you have learned something from your previous efforts. Don’t let the failures of the past be in vain – they show you what doesn’t work For you.

Try something different this time!

Question 2: What are you afraid of?

You are full of momentum right now, and that is great.

But three weeks from now, life will happen and something will go wrong.

What was your trend when this happens in the past?

We ask each NF coaching customer Before they start, “What are you more nervous?”

This answer is something they know as a result of their previous attempts:

Will you get busy and decide “take a break until things are slowed down?” Large! Now you know when the little voice on your head says this, you can prepare for it, design something different and decide that you don’t have To hear this voice on your head.

Will you have a bad day and go completely off the rails? Large! Now you know that when you have a bad day, you can forgive yourself, not look back with anger or guilt and return along the way.

Are you going to give up, even though you really really want to promote? Large! This happens to all of us when the motivation disappears after a few weeks. Consider Add Ulysses Pact To protect your weaknesses or make a bet with a friend to keep you responsible.

NF Matt Myers coach was recently at Mental podcast golf with Josh Nichols – And at 24:30 in the episode, Matt pointed out something to Josh who surprised him:

“You told me before you start,” I know we’ll get out of the gates hard, but about 3 weeks in, I will burn and disappear. ”

And I said, “thank you for informing me”, and I had all these alarms and notifications ready to check in with you repeatedly around the 21 -day signal! ”

Josh had the self -awareness of knowing where he would come out in the future, he and coach Matt were planning for it and took the hit together.

Since then, they have worked for two months (and counting), and Josh has only lost one day to control and miss one day has not caused Josh’s normal behavior “all-or-notting” to kick!

This time may be different

We all started changing, even when we are self -awareness …

We often bite more than we can chew:

Our goals and hopes often go beyond the reality that we are wrong, busy, complex people who live unforeseen lives.

That’s okay!

If we know these things, if we can try differently … then even if that next The effort is not even working, we can remove this strategy from the list of possible successful routes and try again.

This is all life is anyway: try, fail, adjust, restart.
